HealthGrades released the first-ever list of top-rated hospitals for organ transplantation. Now, patients in need of a kidney, lung, heart or liver transplant have a source to find the top programs in the country.
Using data calculated by the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR), Healthgrades.com displays the following information for all U.S. hospitals with transplantation programs:
- Three-year risk-adjusted patient survival
- The rate at which waitlisted patients receive transplants
- Waitlist mortality
Hospitals with transplant programs received HealthGrades Transplant Excellence Award if they had a significantly higher three-year survival rate. Award recipients also had to have waitlist mortality that was either not significantly different than expected or that was significantly lower than expected based on the SRTR calculations.
Of the 266 hospitals evaluated, 20 hospitals received this award for 22 programs:
- HealthGrades Kidney Transplant Excellence Awards were given to 10 hospitals, representing the top three percent of 266 transplant programs evaluated.
- HealthGrades Liver Transplant Excellence Awards were given to 6 recipients, representing the top four percent of 134 transplant programs evaluated.
- HealthGrades Lung Transplant Excellence Awards were given to 4 recipients, representing the top five percent of 73 transplant programs evaluated.
- HealthGrades Heart Transplant Excellence Awards were given to 2 recipients, representing the top one percent of transplant programs evaluated.
