Meet the Accelerated Clinical Excellence (ACE) Team

 
Arshad K. Rahim, M.D.
Director - ACE
Dr. Rahim is the Director of the Accelerated Clinical Excellence (ACE) team at HealthGrades.  He has primary responsibility for the operations/personnel management , and development  for this group. He brings a unique blend of active clinical experience, demonstrated programmatic development and change management expertise, as well as national thought leadership experience.  He leverages his unique skill set, passion,  and natural leadership skills to facilitate quality and process improvement for his hospital clients so they may successfully compete in an increasingly quality  and transparency focused  marketplace .

Prior to HealthGrades, Dr. Rahim was a Director at Sg2, a Chicago-based health care intelligence and consulting firm.  He led engagements focused on hospital strategic planning, clinical program excellence and maximizing performance in high-acuity patient care.  He was centrally involved in physician engagement and change management.  He was the primary thought leader for all critical care deliverables and presentations, and led the development of a forecasting tool for high-acuity patient bed demand. 

Dr. Rahim is a board-certified internist who actively practices as a hospitalist with a focus in critical care medicine.  He has published in major academic and industry publications in areas such as critical care program development and best practices.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and has held regional leadership positions within the organization.

Dr. Rahim has a B.A. in Economics from Duke University, M.D. from the University of North Carolina, and completed the 1-year accelerated M.B.A. from Emory University with a focus in health management.  He completed his internal medicine residency at Yale University and Northwestern University.

Dr. Rahim currently resides in New York City.

Kathy Morse, M.D.
Physician Consultant - ACE
Dr. Morse is a critical care physician with over 20 years of clinical experience as an Internal Medicine physician and RN. Dr. Morse has proven skills in both critical thinking and decision-making, as well as quality improvement experience; a skillset that requires strong team leadership capabilities to address conflict and guide difficult decisions.  Her extensive experience in hospital guidance  includes medical staff and Board of Directors leadership, as well as roles within  private practice and the community.

Dr. Morse began her clinical care experience as a Critical Care RN. In past board leadership positions, Dr. Morse has served as Credentials Committee Chairperson, Board Quality Committee Chairperson, Medical Staff President, Peer Review Committee Chairperson, as well as Medical Staff Bylaws Chairperson.  Paired with her time as a practicing physician, these roles have allowed her to develop a distinctive understanding  of current health care dynamics.

Her passion for improving quality of care and patient outcomes led her to HealthGrades, where  as a Senior Physician consultant she hopes to improve patient outcomes using best practices and clinical guidelines.

Dr. Morse holds a Diploma in Nursing from Bishop Clarkson College of Nursing in Omaha, NE; a B.A. from the University of Nebraska in Omaha, NE; and received her M.D. from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.   After medical school, she completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and spent a year as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine at the Omaha Veterans  Affairs Hospital  before staring her own  Internal Medicine practice.

Both Dr. Morse and her husband currently reside in Colorado.

Saya Mitra, M.D.
Physician Consultant - ACE
Saya Mitra is a Senior Physician Consultant at HealthGrades and a practicing Head and Neck surgeon.  She completed her surgical training at Yale University and practiced on staff there for over 6 years as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery. During this time, she also obtained a Master’s in Business Administration and served as the Chair for the Section of Otolaryngology at the Veterans Hospital. She additionally worked as the Director for Surgical Specialty Clinics and led multiple initiatives for improving quality and operations within different hospital services.  She taught Anatomy at the Yale University School of Medicine and was actively involved with medical student and residency education in the Department of Surgery.

She has pursued her interests in technology, clinical care, and business through her work in Business Development within a start-up organization integrating health delivery, information technology, and social networking.  She has a core focus on quality improvement consulting, with particular experience in process improvement science, change management, conflict resolution and operational implementation of systems level policy.

In her current role, she is a Senior Physician Consultant at HealthGrades and continues to practice Head and Neck Surgery.  She has been an advisor to a consortium of technology firms involved in healthcare and currently serves as Senior Editor for TheHealthCareBlog.

Saya has a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins, an M.D. from NY Medical College, and an M.B.A. from a joint program at Columbia and London Business Schools. She completed her residency in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery from Yale University School of Medicine.

Locke P. Keney, M.D.
Physician Consultant - ACE
Dr. Keney brings real world clinical experience with a focus on improving hospital medicine to the HealthGrades consulting team. He has strong team leadership capabilities with the proven ability to bridge differences of opinion to resolve conflict.  He has a strong passion for improving quality, process improvement, patient safety, and implementing practices to enhance the patient experience. Joining HealthGrades has allowed Dr. Keney to focus on improving clinical outcomes for physicians, hospitals and patients by implementing proven measures on a system-wide basis.

Prior to joining the HealthGrades’ ACE team, Dr. Keney worked as a Hospitalist in Denver, Colorado and rose to become a hospital leader for his group. During his career, he developed a special emphasis on Perioperative Medicine by working closely with anesthesiologists and surgeons to optimize medical care for patients. He has also been a catalyst in advancing quality improvement through involvement in hospital committee activities focusing on heart failure, critical care, utilization review, and cost control. Dr. Keney has been instrumental in educating hospital staff team members and fellow physicians about the elements of perioperative medicine and the impetus for process and quality improvement in this evolving field.

Dr. Keney is a board-certified internist and is an active member of the Society of Hospital Medicine; the American College of Physicians; and the Society of Preoperative Assessment and Quality Improvement. 

Dr. Keney has a B.A. in Chemistry; B.S. in Biochemistry from Texas A&M University; and received his M.D. from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, TX.  He completed his internship at the Baylor College of Medicine and his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center with a special focus on hospital medicine.

Divya Cantor, M.D.
Physician Consultant - ACE
Dr. Cantor brings 22 years of clinical practice and change management experience to the Accelerated Clinical Excellence (ACE) team.  She is a board-certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist and serves on multiple committees within the hospital, medical societies and provides consultation advice to quality programs for liability carriers.  Her experience and acumen as a managing partner of a private six-physician medical practice allows her to understand and affect change with key physician stakeholders to achieve high quality outcomes.

Prior to HealthGrades, Dr. Cantor used her skills in management and strong clinical acumen to create new sources of revenue generation for her clinical practice in an increasingly competitive health care environment.  She managed the financial aspects of the practice along with operations and human resources and thus has a complete understanding not only from the office perspective but also from the hospital side as well.  She is a proven leader and facilitator who is current Chair of the Kentucky Section for District V for the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
 
Dr. Cantor has a B.A. in Biology and Political Science from the University of Louisville, M.D. from the University of Louisville, School of Medicine, and an MBA from the University of Louisville College of Business with an Entrepreneurial Focus.  She completed her internship and residency at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis Missouri.  She has a patent pending on a medical device she invented to be used in Labor and Delivery to quantify the changes of a woman’s cervix as she progresses through labor.
 
Dr. Cantor currently resides in Louisville, Kentucky with her husband, David, and dog Lilly.

Ashley Lemon
Lead Consultant - ACE
Ms. Lemon brings to HealthGrades more than eight years of business development, strategic planning, and hospital administration experience in both for-profit and non-profit hospital organizations. As a Lead Consultant on the Accelerated Clinical Excellence (ACE) team, she takes pride in fostering focus, discipline, and passion within her clients, guiding them on their journey to ensure the highest quality of care to their patients at all times.

During her tenure at HealthGrades, she has worked with over 40 hospital partners nationwide to effectively drive market share growth through superior clinical quality recognition, leverage business negotiations with payers/large employers, boost physician/employee engagement, and utilize HealthGrades’ analysis to drive continued quality improvement efforts. Ms. Lemon believes in partnering with her clients to break free from the status quo, educate care teams on the importance of  adherence to evidence-based medicine, problem-solve to sustain best practices, and support a true quality culture within an organization.

Immediately prior to joining HealthGrades, Ms. Lemon worked in strategic planning for a large health system in Colorado consisting of 12 acute care facilities, senior services, and home health.  In this role, she managed large capital-intensive master facilities projects for new inpatient/outpatient service offerings. To support the corporate strategic imperatives, she utilized her data analytics experience, capitalizing on market share trends and competitive intelligence, to gain success in service line development at multiple facilities with specific focus on orthopedics/spine, cardiology, trauma, and pediatric ancillary services. 

She holds an M.B.A. in Health Administration/MS in Organizational Management from the University of Colorado at Denver as well as a B.S. degree in Health Administration and Policy from Creighton University.  She remains very active in professional organizations along the Front Range of Colorado and in her free time she enjoys spending time with her family skiing, traveling, playing golf, and attending the many Colorado sporting events.

Charlene Sanders
Lead Consultant - ACE
Charlene Sanders  is a Senior Consultant with over 25 years of healthcare experience.   Ms. Sanders has proven success in implementing strategies to decrease mortalities and  improve outcomes. She served as leader for a Rapid Response Team project that achieved recognition from Catholic Health Initiatives and IHI. She has provided leadership to Quality/Performance Improvement, Infection Control, Regulatory Readiness, Patient Safety, Risk Management, Service Quality, Patient Advocacy, and Medical Staff Credentialing functions. Ms. Sanders successfully coordinated the application and survey for  Saint Francis Medical Center to achieve recognition as the first hospital in the State of Nebraska to be awarded the Edgerton Award of Excellence. She has provided leadership to Quality/Performance Improvement, Infection Control, Regulatory Readiness, Patient Safety, Risk Management, Service Quality, Patient Advocacy, and Medical Staff Credentialing functions.

Prior to joining HealthGrades,  Ms. Sanders worked as a Consultant for BE Smith; Cheyenne Regional Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming; Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska; Saint Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska; and also consulted with several Critical Access Hospitals in the State of Nebraska.


Ms. Sanders has a B.S. from  Bellevue University and a M.S. in Healthcare Administration from Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska.  She is a Registered Health Information Technician (R.H.I.T.) a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (C.P.H.Q.); and is also a member of the National Healthcare Quality Association, the Nebraska Healthcare Quality Organization, and the American Health Information Management Association.

Kristen Daley
Lead Consultant - ACE
In her current role as a Senior Consultant with HealthGrades, Ms. Daley focuses her efforts on working directly with clients who are proactively addressing the improvement of clinical quality.  Within her role, Ms. Daley serves as a project manager for her clients, managing project work plans focused on outcomes-based clinical process improvement.

Ms. Daley has been a management consultant in healthcare for 13 years. Prior to joining HealthGrades, Ms. Daley worked as a Manager in the Healthcare Consulting Practice at Ernst & Young.  During her time at Ernst & Young, Ms. Daley led a variety of projects in the areas of strategic and financial planning, IT system implementation/integration, cost accounting, cost reduction, and service line realignment.

Ms. Daley successfully improved the quality and functionality of her clients IT systems by evaluating data collection processes; integrating resource measurement data; identifying unnecessary or redundant practices; and reducing costs in the projects she managed.  She guided clients in the development of profit and loss reporting, forecasting, and modeling tools.  She performed strategic and financial planning assessments for clients focusing on mergers and affiliations.  Ms. Daley has published articles and given multiple presentations on topics such as procedural cost accounting, improving productivity, cost reduction and maximizing the benefits of decision support tools.

Prior to Ernst & Young , Ms. Daley gained expertise as a project manager at HBO & Company (part of McKesson) and TriNet Healthcare Consultants. 
  
Ms. Daley has a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Dartmouth College and resides in Denver, Colorado with her family.

Cathy Jerow
Lead Consultant - ACE
Catherine Jerow is a results-oriented leader with 19 years of  nursing and  administrative health-care experience. Prior to joining HealthGrades, Ms. Jerow worked as a nurse manager and orthopedic service line project manager for Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg Virginia.Ms. Jerow brings years of nursing experience to her consulting role including previous roles as a cardiac and IV therapy case manager, charge and staff RN on a surgical step-down unit, and oncology nurse. During her tenure in home health, she participated in several multi-disciplinary teams that focused on continuity of care and while working alongside with community service organizations to assist her patients in accessing available resources. She was also an initial member and co-developer of the cardiac team  for home health,  and was responsible in caring for post-cardiac bypass, congestive heart failure, and atrial fibrillation patients.

In her nursing leadership role, Ms. Jerow facilitated, led, and participated in many quality improvement teams that brought about successful and sustained change. She led the development and implementation of Joint Care Plus, a comprehensive program for total joint replacement patients. This program reduced LOS, increased patient and staff satisfaction, as well as improved functional outcomes for the joint replacement patients.  Ms. Jerow and her team developed a similar program for surgical spine patients, providing them educational materials, excellent postoperative care, and improved functional outcomes.  As project manager for the orthopedic service line, Ms. Jerow also worked with various multidisciplinary clinicians to develop a hip fracture care program to improve the clinical outcomes for this high risk patient population. 

Continuing education also plays an important role in Cathy’s professional life. She has her Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration and became  an ANCC Board Certified Nurse Executive.  Ms. Jerow is currently completing her MBA .

Dana M. Curry
Lead Consultant - ACE
Dana M. Curry brings extensive healthcare leadership experience to her role as Lead Consultant with the HealthGrades Accelerated Clinical Excellence (ACE) Team.  Ms. Curry is trained in Lean and  Six Sigma methodologies and has successfully led large and small teams in implementing process changes.  Her expertise includes hospital process improvement science, quality evaluation, and implementation of a variety of hospital quality initiatives.

Ms. Curry’s previous successes included development and management of clinical teams focused on improving core measures scores, implementation of evidence-based medicine initiatives, and leadership in hospital-wide improvement of pain management.

Prior to joining HealthGrades, Ms. Curry created and managed the Data Management department for a 200-bed hospital in the west.  She has led quality initiatives related to Data Management, Quality and Performance Improvement, Accreditation, Risk Management, Peer Review/OPPE, Case Management, Utilization Management, and Medical Staff relations and quality improvement.  She has extensive experience with the management and reporting of hospital/healthcare data.
 
Ms. Curry has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from  Baker College, Flint, Michigan and will earn her Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) certification in  2011.

Julie Brown
Lead Consultant - ACE
Julie Brown serves as a Lead Consultant for the Accelerated Clinical Excellence  (ACE) Team with HealthGrades.  Ms. Brown guides clients to improve quality outcomes by decreasing mortalities and complication rates.  Within her role, Ms. Brown serves as a project manager, managing project work plans focused on best practice outcomes-based clinical process improvement.

Ms. Brown brings to HealthGrades over 11 years experience in health care sales and consulting, customer relationship management, and building customized solutions for her clients.  During this time, Ms. Brown helped hospitals and corporations across the nation to build efficiencies with IT system implementation/integration in the areas of marketing, quality assurance, data management, application performance management, and IT portfolio management. 

Prior to joining HealthGrades, Ms. Brown developed the health care product for Four Winds Interactive, developing a unique ROI model, developing strong relationships with the Executive Teams within hospitals and hospital systems across the country through the purchasing cycle, deployment, and ongoing service.  She has worked with Cedars Sinai, Providence Health, Parkview Health, Alegent Healthcare, Centura Health and Bon Secours Health System.

Ms. Brown graduated from Florida State University, College of Business with a B.S. in Management Information Systems.  Ms. Brown resides in Denver with her family.
